Where the collector runs
Every collector ends up the same way: open its web interface, enter the one-time setup code, create the first admin. The hub is hosted at app.monitaria.com; there is nothing to install for it.
VM appliance
| .ova | VMware ESXi, Workstation and Fusion; Oracle VirtualBox |
|---|---|
| .vhdx | Microsoft Hyper-V, Generation 1 |
| .qcow2 | Proxmox VE, KVM / QEMU |
| Size | 2 vCPU, 2 GB of memory, 20 GB of disk (thin), x86_64 |
| Network | Connected to the network to be monitored, with an address from DHCP |
| Open ports | 443/tcp (web interface). SSH is off until you turn it on. From the next release the image also opens 2055/udp for NetFlow |
Each build's qcow2 image is booted and checked end to end by an automated test: HTTPS answers, the setup code shows on the console, the first admin can be created and must set up two-factor sign-in, the API needs a session, the session cookie is secure and SSH is closed. The OVA and VHDX are converted from that same tested disk.
From the next release
Docker
A Linux host that already runs containers, with host networking so discovery and NetFlow see the real network. Everything lives on one volume; a health check is built in.
Installer for Linux servers
Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, Debian 12 or newer, RHEL, Rocky, Alma or CentOS Stream 8 or newer, and Fedora, with systemd. It installs Python 3.11 or newer from the distribution and runs the collector as a hardened service. Works offline from a copied release file, with its checksum checked.
High availability
Two collectors as a primary and a standby, installed any of these ways. They need the same license size and clocks in sync.
Ports the collector uses
| 443/tcp (appliance), 8443/tcp (Docker, installer) | Web interface over HTTPS, with a self-signed certificate you can replace |
|---|---|
| 2055/udp | NetFlow / IPFIX, off until turned on |
| 6343/udp | sFlow, off until turned on |
| 514/udp | Syslog, off until turned on |
| 162/udp | SNMP traps, off until turned on |
| Outbound 443/tcp | HTTPS to the hub, only when a hub is linked. Nothing connects in |
The hub
Hosted at app.monitaria.com. People sign in with Microsoft Entra work accounts or Google Workspace accounts; personal accounts are refused.
