Update policy
How updates work
Collectors run on your network, so you decide when they change. The hub is hosted, so we keep it up to date.
The collector
Collector releases are numbered (major.minor.patch) and every one is listed in the release history with what changed. A collector never updates its own program: you install a new version when it suits you.
The collector shows its version in the header. Once a day it checks monitaria.com for a newer release, and admins see Update available when there is one. The check is a plain download that sends nothing about the collector or its network, and nothing is installed by itself.
The appliance's operating system (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) installs security updates automatically, so the base system stays patched between releases.
- Every configuration change is validated before it's saved, and the last 10 versions are kept as backups.
- Upgrading keeps the collector's two-factor setting; new collectors require two-factor sign-in for admins.
- From the next release, the installer upgrades a collector in place, the appliance too: settings, data and certificates stay, and the previous program is kept so you can roll back.
- With Docker (from the next release), recreate the container from the new image with the same volume.
Security fixes
A security fix is published as a new release, and its release notes say that it fixes a security issue and which part of the product it affects. Report a vulnerability through the disclosure policy.
The hub
The hub at app.monitaria.com is updated by us. Collectors keep monitoring and alerting while the hub is unavailable: they retry with a growing delay, and each status snapshot is complete, so the first one that arrives brings the hub up to date.
License files
License files are checked on the collector, offline. A subscription brings a new file with each renewal: every month on monthly billing, once a year on yearly billing. Install it in Settings › License on each collector; it replaces the old one straight away. Licensing never stops monitoring or alerts.
