Linking collectors to the hub

See every site and customer on one page: link each collector to the hub with a site ID and secret. Collectors push status outbound only.

3 min read · For admins

The hub shows the status of every collector you look after on one page, and people sign in to it with their Microsoft or Google work account. Each collector pushes a snapshot of its status to the hub every 60 seconds. The connection is outbound only: nothing on the internet connects in, so the site needs no inbound firewall rule.

1. Add the site on the hub

  1. Sign in to the hub and choose Add site. Add one site for each collector.
  2. Copy the hub URL, the site ID and the site secret it shows. The secret is shown only once; you can issue a new one later.

2. Link the collector

  1. On the collector, open Settings › Hub link and choose Link to the hub….
  2. Paste the hub URL, the site ID and the site secret. Optionally give the collector a name: it shows on the hub, in alerts and in the browser tab.
  3. Choose Link. The Status panel on Settings › Hub link shows when the last push arrived, or why it failed.

What leaves the site

  • The site ID and name, the collector version and a summary of its license.
  • For each sensor: its name, device, sensor type, device type, status, latest value and unit, status message and times.
  • A few hardware facts per device from its device details, when the collector has them.

Sensor targets (addresses, host names and URLs), SNMP communities, credentials and measurement history stay on the collector. Addresses in status messages are replaced with [ip] or [target] before a push is sent.

Good to know

  • Every push is signed with the site secret (HMAC-SHA256) and protected against replay.
  • Each push is a full snapshot, so a missed push heals on the next one. After failures the collector waits longer between attempts, up to 15 minutes.
  • If you issue a new secret on the hub, paste it into Settings › Hub link (Change the link…); the collector's pushes are refused until you do.
  • To stop pushing, open Settings › Hub link, choose Change the link… and then Unlink.

Tip: Outbound HTTPS from the collector to the hub's address is all the firewall needs.
